Welcome

Hello World (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vvCDHKYT3xQ),

At the suggestion of my parents on the way to lunch this afternoon, I have decided to create a blog.  I realize that this is a phase that most people went through roughly five to seven years ago with the advent of blogging sites like Xanga and MySpace.  Nevertheless, I am frequently behind the technology curve (ex. maintaining the old gray brick-style Gameboy until 2001, as well as still using a Microsoft Zune when nearly everyone has some form of Apple's iPod or other Apple technology (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=16tWxbwAQ80&feature=related  Thanks, Family Guy and Seinfeld!)).

Anyway, I will use this blog to share my thoughts with others because with the explosion of talk radio and news talk shows, I have learned that people's thirst for hearing what others have to say about specific topics can rarely  be quenched, so long as the opinions and facts that are spouted align with the listener's own thinking.  Additionally, the listener will also maintain interest if someone's views are so blatantly distant from their own, if for no other reason so that the listener will have something to disagree with vehemently, often to the point where that person will then find the next closest individual to share with them their own thoughts, opinions and beliefs about what they just heard someone else utter.

The topics of this blog will largely be sports related with pop culture interwoven to make it as close to my own life as possible, since these are really the only things that I am interested in enough to maintain a stable conversation with others without appearing bored or wishing that the conversation would speed up or be continually changing topics enough to keep everyone on their toes.  In short, I realize that that is far more a reflection about me than others and that it shows that I need to modify my behavior and communication ability more than the world does (quite ironic considering that I was a communications major at Texas A&M).

In any event, as previously exhibited above with the Seinfeld and Family Guy clip, I will try and post something daily or every other day that is either sports, pop culture, or a combination of both ala Grantland's Bill Simmons.  Just as a forewarning, I will tend to be favorable to Dallas area sports teams, specifically the Cowboys, Rangers and Mavericks.  Also, Texas A&M will generally be portrayed in a positive light.  I will try and remain more objective than subjective, by using facts and figures as I find them convenient to enhance my argument.  Nevertheless, I am not above taking cheap shots to win arguments and have no problem trying to undercut the San Antonio Spurs with backhanded compliments (It was incredible watching the Spurs put together a 60+ win season, and was neat to see Manu Ginobili gather some MVP votes.  In spite of these laudable accomplishments, one wonders how such a prolific team exhibiting superior teamwork could be the first Western Conference team to be eliminated from the post-season).

This entry was mostly meant as a trial to myself to prove that I still have some competent level of writing and using words.  I will likely (meaning that I will barring interruptions) get something else put up this afternoon before heading to Dallas to have dinner with my sister while watching Texas A&M square off against SMU for Aggies season opener.

Hopefully you will enjoy reading this as much as I enjoy being the center of attention.  No, I'm kidding!  For those of you who have suffered by having to listen to my endless droning on about sports, I apologize that I have not done this sooner.  That way, you will be able to tell by the title of the article or the lede or nut graph (journalism minor, sorry) whether or not you care what I am spouting about at that particular time.  I greatly encourage readers to send comments and share their thoughts about my opinions, otherwise I'm really wasting everyone's time.  By replying to my banality and lack of true insight, I'm only wasting your time because you obviously were at least minutely interested in my opinions or you would not have even considered taking a few minutes out of your routine to bother putting something together.

I acknowledge that this particular text has been quite long and I apologize.  I am not sure if this will be the norm or is an anomaly.  I will know shortly when I will likely get bored and tired of doing this after about a week.  Until then though, feel free to read my literature!

Thanks,

Cameron King
